An Expert's Insight: Gatik Chaujer Discusses AI's Role in Storytelling

Stories matter.

Meeting again.

Around four years ago, I first encountered Gatik at a local event in Adelaide called Adelaide Connected. Despite a mixed lineup of speakers, Gatik stood out for his ability to captivate the audience in a short time. Intrigued, I approached him, and we agreed to reconnect in the future. Following up online, Gatik shared a booklet showcasing his work that proved more insightful than the three books I had been reading on the subject.

After this initial interaction, it took four years for our paths to cross again. In our recent meeting, Gatik generously dedicated his time to discussing my challenges with storytelling, highlighting the need for more relevant examples. I intend to incorporate his suggestions into my upcoming participation in the 3MT competition, where participants have three minutes to explain their thesis.

Interview

Simon: Keeping it simple, I'd like to ask you about where AI-generated content could excel in storytelling since you have a lot of experience in that space, especially from your TEDx talks in India.

Gatik: Absolutely, I strongly believe in this. We are developing a personalized AI coach for our clients in the learning field. Using AI in storytelling has a clear advantage. When it comes to creating stories, the challenge is not just storytelling, but crafting the story. This involves gathering ideas, perspectives, and information. AI, including OpenAI and generative AI, can greatly assist learners in discovering and developing their stories.

Simon: Sounds great! You've built your own AI coach to assist people in improving their storytelling skills. That's fascinating.

Gatik: Yes, we've already created the MVP, so we're making progress.

Simon: How can ChatGPT and similar Large Language Models enhance storytelling?

Gatik: Great question. I believe gen AI has a big role in improving stories for all kinds of people and organizations. For instance, think about Martin Luther King's famous "I have a dream" speech. It wasn't written by him, but by a speechwriter. This shows how tools like ChatGPT can help create impactful narratives for leaders and individuals who may not be naturally talented storytellers. I create narratives for my clients. As a scriptwriter, my job is to understand the context and message, then craft a story for the speaker. This can be done effectively with GenAI. When working with you, Simon, I asked questions and noted key points to create a formula for our discussion. This process can also be automated with GenAI, improving storytelling both verbally and in writing.

Simon: Interesting. So, you focus on making content engaging by capturing and transforming information into compelling stories using GenAI.

Gatik: I think it's important to focus on sharing standout ideas instead of overwhelming with too many. Filtering out the noise to uncover valuable points is crucial. AI, like GenAI, could assist in this.

Simon: Time's running out. Shall we conclude? Do you believe AI might find it challenging to convey emotions in business storytelling?

Gatik: AI struggles to capture human emotions well. We need to enhance storytelling to better connect and engage people. It's not about how the message is delivered but rather what it should convey.

Simon: So, it's about making connections?

Gatik: Exactly. GenAI provides a lot of information and prompts, but it's up to individuals to present it effectively for the message to resonate. It's a good balance that can save time.
